Blog 4

One of the things that first came to my mind when I saw Kristen walking around the auditorium was: “She is really energetic and colorful”. I think she was trying to show that we should pay attention to everything that surrounds us. Sometimes, we stay still in one place thinking we get the best in there but we do not know if trying from other angle it may look better. We all are different shapes and sizes, and we all see the world in a different perspective, she described herself of being a tall woman, and she sees people in a different way than a person of a short height would. I think she tried to make a point that we can get good results if we try from different positions and understand how other see the world.
Her film was really touching, sometimes we have an idea how people live but it is different when you see it on a video. It was a little depressing how people in Afghanistan live, all look so dark and grey without life.  So, the shot of the kid walking with the balloons and the camera going through them, shows that there is still color in a place that it may not seem nice, that there is innocence in those kids who want to live and have a better life.
She made me us do this exercise into look each other’s eyes, I think her purpose was to appreciate what we have in front of us that sometimes we see but don’t look or observe. We ignore things that are just in front of us, and we don’t know what it may seem obvious.
One of the things I like of her lecture was to observe details, being in the moment, summarize with a word what we got from each film we watch. Sometimes, I do not pay attention to details that can actually mean a lot in a whole story, I think after what she said; I started paying more attention to little things that can make a big difference.

The Sound Walk

After hearing my audio the whole hour, and pay attention to it, I realized how many sounds you can appreciate. From hearing ambulance sirens to hear many languages. Most of the times, we ignore every single little thing and sound, sometimes we are so focused in our own thing that we notice the rest. It’s interesting to actually realize how diverse this city is. I could hear different languages, languages that I understand and others I do not. How the voice of some people sounded a little deeper and in a happy tone, and other a little more calm and serious. I could also hear the steps of people, and even my own steps, usually in New York City; people are always in a rush and walk fast. One sound that I really enjoyed was the one hearing the wind and the noise the sleeves make because of it. Also, the singing of the birds, I found it so relaxing and calm, it made me forget I was walking in a busy and crowded city. I walked from 5av to Central Park because I knew I could I get different types of sounds. But I may say one of the sounds I could hear the most was from the cars and buses, especially when you are in Manhattan. It is impossible not to hear the honks of the cars every minute; it is something that makes the city characteristic, for the crazy traffic. Definitely, I will do this experiment in a different neighborhood and see if I can discover new sounds.

Personal Statement

One of the biggest reasons why I decided to study film was because of music. I always wanted to be a singer but I realized I was not that good at singing but since always I noticed every time I listened to a song I could create a music video on my head. This made me realize that creating videos was something I wanted. In my last video projects that I have created or worked on I noticed that I really enjoy directing and producing. I love comedies, every time I have the chance to perform a comedy role I do it. I like entertaining people and also acting  is one of the thing I truly enjoy. That is why I am doing a minor in theater, I want to get better in my acting skills. My goal is to be able to direct, produce and act.
So far I have created stories that are more dramatic than comedy, this is because I wanted to challenge myself I was able to try different things. I feel I also do good with drama not just creating stories but also acting. My goal now as a film student is learn from others as much as I can, improve my editing skills, and shoot and act as much I can.
